Warped Eco spotlight on Don't Hate on Haiti

Posted Jul 23, 2010 7:00 AM by tiffanymink
The Warped Eco Initiative began in 2005 and has grown to include a volunteer driven recycling program (over 500 .lbs everyday!), solar powered stage, bio diesel fueling, compostable/reusable dishware in catering, eco-driven contests,a band volunteer participation program, and more! This year we want to showcase people on the tour who are going above and beyond, using music as a platform to creative positive change.

This week we wanted to introduce you to Tyson Ritter of The All American Rejects, someone you are probably already familiar with and highlight a cause that is very important to him. After discussing his work with Charity Water and Don't hate on Haiti, I was struck by his in depth knowledge of the issue and how hard he was working to raise funds to build clean water wells. As he said,"Once you open your heart up to it, it's hard to not do something." Now it's your chance to do something.

The disaster in Haiti means that the country is still 30 years away (at least) from returning to normalcy. Complications from living in a country with one of the world's highest rates of deforestation only exacerbate the already dire situation where the earthquake has left people without homes and without clean water. According to Charity: Water. More than 1.1 billion people in the world, mostly in developing nations, do not have access to safe water. Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation causes 80% of all sickness and disease, and kills more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Just think about that for a second! It's mind blowing.

On AAR's last day of tour warped eco was lucky enough to win $200.00 from the Invisible Children contest (when fans texted IC ECO to 85944 it donates $5.00 to build a school in Uganda). We decided to pay it forward. I matched IC's prize and in the end we donated $400.00 towards Don't Hate on Haiti. Watch the video and than get to helping. Send us a photo of your confirmation text that you donated to Charity Water, a copy of your order of a "Don't Hate on Haiti" shirt or a photo of you in your Don't Hate on Haiti shirt. Email them to warpedecovolunteer@gmail.com. Make sure you put the subject: Haiti

One lucky winner will get a warped tour prize pack.
All entries must be in by July 30th.

Everything you do makes a difference,
Tara
